ARCHITECT & ARTIST

CONCRETE X WOOD

Student Project:

This project was developed with my best friend in our second semester studio course during our senior year. My role for this project was the design architect while my partner’s role was the technical designer, both of which were established based on our proclivities as designers.

This project was uniquely conceived because we were tasked with developing a structural system prior to selecting a site or program. By combining two conventional materials, concrete and wood, in unconventional methods, an innovative building typology was created. Being situated on a prominently public site, we were driven to integrate program that welcomed people from all paths. Connectivity to the harborwalk and skyline views across the channel were maintained by carefully manipulating the building form. As you circulate through the building you gain glimpses of the solid/void relationships that produce a heightened sense of dynamism throughout the site.
